In the 2022 season, American soprano Ashlee Lamar looks forward to returning to The Glimmerglass Festival as a young artist where she will cover the role of Kayla in TAKING UP SERPENTS, perform Sister Berthe in THE SOUND OF MUSIC, and also appear in CARMEN. She also looks forward to joining Sarasota Opera as an apprentice artist where she will sing the partial roles of Leonora in IL TROVATORE and Nedda in PAGLIACCI and she will appear in TOSCA, LA FILLE DU RÉGIMENT, LES PÊCHEURS DE PERLES, and ATTILA. Ashlee also looks forward to returning to her alma mater, Boston University to explore the title role in TURANDOT in an exciting new recording project.
Highlights of her 2021 season included her role debut as Chrysothemis in ELEKTRA and returning to the role of Donna Anna in DON GIOVANNI. Ms. Lamar's 2020 season included the roles of Vitellia in LA CLEMENZA DI TITO with the Opera Institute at Boston University, as well as Donna Anna (cv) in DON GIOVANNI, and Baroness Zeller in THE SOUND OF MUSIC with The Glimmerglass Festival.
Other recent roles include the title role in SUOR ANGELICA, Mimì in LA BOHÈME, Violetta Valéry in LA TRAVIATA, Eleanor Iselin in THE MANCHURIAN CANDIDATE, Vera Donovan in DOLORES CLAIBORNE, Harriet Mosher in EMMELINE, and Ruth Baldwin in LATER THE SAME EVENING.
Ashlee was recently the recipient of the Phyllis Curtin Award for professionalism, artistry, and collegiality at the Boston University Opera Institute. She was also a semi-finalist in the SAS Vocal Competition in 2021, and a Metropolitan Opera National Council District Encouragement Award winner in 2020.
