In the 2022 season, American soprano Ashlee Lamar looks forward to joining Des Moines Metro Opera as an apprentice artist where she will cover the role of Fata Morgana in Prokofiev's THE LOVE FOR THREE ORANGES and also appear in CARMEN. She also looks forward to returning to her alma mater, Boston University to perform an excerpt from the title role in TURANDOT.
Highlights of her 2021/2022 season included returning to The Glimmerglass Festival as a young artist where she covered and went on to perform the role of Kayla in TAKING UP SERPENTS, performed Sister Berthe in THE SOUND OF MUSIC, and also appeared in CARMEN. Ms. Lamar also made her role debut as Chrysothemis in ELEKTRA and returned to the role of Donna Anna in DON GIOVANNI. She also joined Sarasota Opera as an apprentice artist where she sang the partial roles of Leonora in IL TROVATORE and Nedda in PAGLIACCI and also appeared in TOSCA, LA FILLE DU RÉGIMENT, LES PÊCHEURS DE PERLES, and ATTILA. She also returned to her alma mater, Boston University to explore the title role in TURANDOT in an exciting new recording project.
Other recent roles include Vitellia in LA CLEMENZA DI TITO, the title role in SUOR ANGELICA, Mimì in LA BOHÈME, Violetta Valéry in LA TRAVIATA, Eleanor Iselin in THE MANCHURIAN CANDIDATE, Vera Donovan in DOLORES CLAIBORNE, Harriet Mosher in EMMELINE, and Ruth Baldwin in LATER THE SAME EVENING.
Ashlee was recently the recipient of the Phyllis Curtin Award for professionalism, artistry, and collegiality at the Boston University Opera Institute. She was also a semi-finalist in the SAS Vocal Competition in 2021, and a Metropolitan Opera National Council District Encouragement Award winner in 2020.
